How do you handle a price objection?
Handle a price objection by validating the concern, clarifying what the buyer means by expensive, isolating whether money is the only issue, and reconnecting the investment to the outcome they said they wanted. Do not reflexively discount before you understand the objection.
“Totally fair. When you say it’s too expensive, are you saying the money literally is not available, or are you not yet convinced the outcome is worth the investment?”
Why this works
This question separates affordability from value uncertainty. If the money is not available, you need a structure conversation. If the buyer is unsure about value, you need to revisit pain, cost of inaction, and the specific outcome they want.
Price objection mistakes to avoid
- Discounting too fast: It trains the buyer that your price was not real.
- Defending the price: It makes the call feel adversarial.
- Ignoring the real concern: “Too expensive” often means “I am not certain yet.”
- Skipping isolation: Always find out whether price is the only thing stopping them.
